Friday, July 7th: "Celtic Traditions: Influences for the Northumbria Community"

The weekend will begin by putting things in context. Members of the Northumbria Community will be upacking some of the historical Celtic traditions or 'streams' which have shaped and inspired the Community. They will speak about the Johannine tradition, the Desert Fathers, Ireland and the monastic tradition, Iona and more.

"Celtic Fire: Stories that Shaped the Northumbria Community" - Telling the story of St. Cuthbert in song, story, music and dance.


Speaker Bio :

Roy Searle trained at Lebanon Missionary Bible College and Northumbria Bible College before being ordained in 1980 as a Baptist Minister. He served eight years at Portrack Baptist Church when he was also Moderator of the Northern Baptist Association, and four years at Enon Baptist Church in Sunderland.

In 1992 Roy was seconded by the Baptist Union to work full time with the Northumbria Community, of which he is one of the founders. As a consultant with the Bible Society, Roy helped to establish The Telling Place storytelling network and continues to lead worship with the Northumbria Community at Spring Harvest, at Easter People and he has been involved with worship at the Baptist Assembly. He writes and lectures on the new MA Leadership Course run by Theology in Mission. Roy is the Director of Renovaré in Britain and Ireland.

Roy is married to Shirley and they have four grown-up children. Roy enjoys being with his family and friends, walking, sailing, going to the gym and supporting Middlesbrough Football Club.
